Puma arrived in Cape Town in second place behind the winner Ericsson 4 which arrived earlier in the day. During the nine months of the 2008-09 Volvo, which started in Alicante, Spain in October 2008 and concludes in St Petersburg, Russia,  late June 2009, the teams will sail over 37,000 nautical miles of the worldÌs most treacherous seas via Cape Town, Kochi, Singapore, Qingdao, around Cape Horn to Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Goteborg and Stockholm.   • epa02070618 The giant 105 foot trimaran, Majan, one of the worlds biggest and fastest yachts and the first of a new Arabian A100 class multi-hull yacht sails in Table Bay towards the landmark Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa 08 March 2010. Majan is part of the Oman Sail project and presently in South Africa to trace the route of a major new 16 300 nautical mile open ocean yacht race.  The Indian Ocean 5 Capes Race will be the first ever yacht race to link the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Asia and the first ever race of its kind in the Indian Ocean.   • British yacht 'Jersey' sails into Cape Town South Africa 22 June 2003 after completing the 2500 mile passage from Mauritius to Cape Town completing leg 5 of the bi-ennial Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. 'Jersey' is overall leader in the race and finished this leg second 20 minutes behind UK entry 'Bristol'. 8 identical 60 foot yachts departed from Liverpool on 28 October 2002 to sail 35 000 miles stopping at 16 ports on the longest round the world yacht race. Each yacht is crewed by 14 sailors and is backed by an International city including  Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Jersey, New York and London.   • South African sailors onboard the traditional gaff-rigged Cutter 'Ariette', sailing off the Cape Penisula in South Africa 01 May 2008. Ariette is a traditional wooden sailing vessel of the Allegra class designed in the USA. Constructed in South Africa in 1993 using an assortment of woods including Mahogany, Jacaranda and Teak she is one of the finest vessels in the Traditional Boat Association (TBA) of South Africa having won numerous prizes over the years for her imaculate condition and pure traditional construction. The TBA is an elite group of boats in South Africa with less  than 50 members that meet yearly to compare notes on the ancient art of building,maintaining and sailing traditional boats. width:1000;;height:667
  • A windsurfer performs a gybe whilst sailing off the Cape Peninsula in Cape Town, South Africa 17 October 2012. Spring time in the Cape brings consistant strong south-easterly winds which combined with good southern ocean swells provide excellent conditions for the sport.   • Sailors Gerard Loos and Jan Klaver from the Netherlands compete in the 2008 Hobie Cat Tiger world championships in Langabaan, South Africa 05 March 2008. The 2008 Hobie Tiger and Hobie Dragoon world championships are currently being held at Langabaan lagoon between 1-8 March. Sailors from 15 nations are competing.
